Zoysia Sod in Oklahoma

Zoysia grows into a thick, carpet-like lawn that feels great underfoot. It grows more slowly than Bermuda, so it needs less mowing, and it handles light shade better than Bermuda. Apex Sod carries Meyer Zoysia and Matrella Zoysia.

Zoysia pallets cover 400 sq ft, a little less than Bermuda and Fescue pallets (500 sq ft).

Meyer Zoysia

A medium-bladed Zoysia that forms a dense, carpet-like lawn with good cold tolerance. Slower growth means less mowing and a refined appearance.

  • Best for: residential lawns, moderate shade, low-maintenance landscapes
  • Sun: full sun to light shade
  • Water: low to moderate

Matrella Zoysia

A fine-bladed Zoysia prized for its lush emerald color, soft texture, and strong shade tolerance. Excellent for creating a polished, high-end lawn.

  • Best for: premium show lawns, shaded edges, manicured landscapes
  • Sun: full sun to partial shade
  • Water: low to moderate

Is Zoysia right for your yard?

In general, Zoysia is a good fit if you:

  • Have a yard with some shade from trees or buildings for part of the day.
  • Want a dense, uniform look and are happy to trade Bermuda’s fast recovery for less mowing.
  • Are planning a front lawn or show area more than a sports field.

Like Bermuda, Zoysia is a warm-season grass that goes tan in winter. Because it grows slowly, it takes longer to repair worn spots.

Zoysia in winter: dormant sod

Like Bermuda, Zoysia goes dormant after the first hard frost. It turns tan and stops growing, then greens back up in spring.

  • Dormant isn’t dead: the grass is alive and waiting for warm soil.
  • Installing in winter: sod can go down dormant as long as the ground isn’t frozen. It stays tan until spring, then roots in.
  • Watering: dormant sod needs far less water than summer sod. Keep it from drying out, but don’t keep it soggy.

Yes, we sell and install dormant Zoysia in winter. Lay it now and it’s in place, ready to root in and green up in spring.

How much Zoysia do I need?

Add 5% for trimming, divide by 400, and round up to the next half pallet. A 2,000 sq ft yard takes 5.5 pallets of Zoysia. The sod calculator does the math for you, and the price calculator shows the total.
